The design of this retreat home in undulating agricultural hills strives for open
and flowing spaces and forms. Minimalist detailing and raw materials enhance and accentuate connections to the region and
incomparable views. Inspiration is taken from the land itself, from sinuous figures and layers of alluring veils.
A series of parametric models are developed to generate variations and optimize
combinations of curving walls, floor openings, columns, framing, windows, and siding.
Entry occurs at the center of the main level after passing through the front façade and up a grand stair.
The main level features sweeping indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces and kitchen. The lower level has space for guest bed,
bath, and additional living and dining areas.
A distinct spiral
stair connects all levels of the home. The upper level holds two bedrooms with accompanying exterior terraces and full bathrooms;
one showcasing a luxurious soaking tub and isolated balcony. The structure is topped with an occupiable roof garden.
The project balances unconventional layout with functional domestic necessities,
blurs public and private, is uninhibited yet tranquil, and equally frames and connects spaces and occupants throughout the
home and beyond into the landscape.
